If the job of a contemporary newsroom is the “curation of now”, are we doing ourselves a disservice by limiting the contribution of the readers (the “crowd”) to comments, the occasional citizen journalism, and a very limited form of curation of interesting news by popularity? Time to explore a new deal between editorial and reader, between interestingness and importance of news.

A haphazard, grainy and already blurry retrospective of twelve months between a chuckle at the “mind the gap” sign on the platform of the train from Heathrow airport into the city, and a fleeting moment at a busy pedestrian crossing with a thought: isn't it amazing that I am living in my third world capital?

Fin 2004, je fus contacté par un lycéen préparant un dossier sur le Japon, et nous fîmes quelques aller-retour de questions et réponses…
Je ne l'attendais pas si tôt, étant à peine remis de mes escapades parisiennes et hongroises, pourtant il est là, déjà petit point rouge au large, bientôt bourrasque sur nos têtes. Typhon!
